Greece against the EU

Weekly prices from the European Commission's Weekly Oil Bulletin. Before taxes, the gap between Greece and the EU average is what the fuel costs here plus refinery, distribution and retail margins, the part taxes cannot explain; with taxes it adds each country's duties and VAT. Greek heating oil is shown only in its season: the bulletin repeats its last price through the summer. The chart always shows at least 13 weeks. About the numbers

  • Source: the daily per-prefecture bulletins of the Ministry of Development's fuel price observatory on fuelprices.gr, one PDF a day, read automatically. Daily from — to —. Prices are averages in euro per litre, VAT included.
  • Heating oil is the bulletin's “Diesel Θέρμανσης Κατ' οίκον”, delivered to the home, and is only reported from 15 October to 30 April, the season with reduced excise duty. “Greece (national average)” is the average the bulletin prints, weighted by each prefecture's sales.
  • The national figures match the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin's prices for Greece on almost every Monday since 2017, for unleaded 95, diesel and heating oil.
  • Super is hidden by default in the all-fuels chart: by late 2021 only a handful of stations in the whole country still sold it, so its averages say little.
  • Short gaps are days the site has no readable bulletin: days it never published, bulletins posted only as scanned images, and a technical outage from 26 to 29 January 2024.
